Super Lawyers, a Thomas Reuters business, was first published in 1991 and is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have achieved a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Each year, no more than 5 percent of lawyers in the state are selected as Super Lawyers and no more than 2.5 percent of lawyers in the state are recognized as Rising Stars. Selections are made using a patented multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. Rising Stars are top attorneys in the state who have been practicing for less than 10 years or are under 40 years old.
