Lateral Partner Jonathan Head Leads Weinberg Wheeler Hudgins Gunn & Dial's Expansion Into Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM (April 11, 2018) --- Weinberg Wheeler Hudgins Gunn & Dial, winner of ALM’s Daily Report Mid-Size Litigation Department of the Year in 2014, 2016 and 2017, is pleased to announce its expansion into Alabama with the opening of a new office in Birmingham, which will be run by Partner of Counsel Jonathan Head. Head most recently served as the chief legal officer and senior vice president at Balfour Beatty Construction, a U.K. firm that is a FTSE 250 Index company, in its Orlando office. In his new role, Head will serve as the lead of the new office and bolster the firm’s construction practice in the Southeast, as well as nationally. This Birmingham office will serve to strengthen the firm’s reach in the Southeast, with other offices in Atlanta, Miami and Orlando.
“Jonathan has proved himself to be an exceptional professional in the construction industry, as well as a leader during his impressive career span,” said David Dial, Weinberg Wheeler Hudgins Gunn & Dial managing partner of the firm. “He brings a valuable combination of experience working as an outside counsel to the construction sector as well as in-house counsel. We are confident he will play an integral role internally at our firm, as well as ensuring our clients they are receiving the best legal advice.”
Head brings more than 20 years of experience with him in counseling and managing construction litigation. He has experience in transactional and compliance matters. Head has also served as counsel for large contractors and manufacturers, writing claims, negotiating and resolving disputes through trials and arbitration. He has also helped small and large construction and manufacturing companies avoid claims by providing them with strategic contract drafting, negotiation and administration.
At Balfour Beatty, Head participated in strategic roadmap creation, conducted monthly reviews of projects and advised generally in all facets of business. He managed all litigation, transactional and compliance matters for the division and introduced new processes for accurately forecasting litigation recoveries and costs, instituted legal budgeting and trained project personnel thoroughly in contract administration. He also served on the subcommittee that revised the standard subcontracts and billing guidelines for outside counsel.
Head has taught construction law classes to local trade groups, bar association meetings and in-house client management teams. He is also a member of the Alabama Bar Association and the Association of Corporate Counsel. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to head the firm’s new Birmingham office,” said Head. “The firm already has an impressive construction practice, and I look forward to bringing my knowledge of working in-house with a large construction company. We are confident that the opening of the Birmingham office will be a great way to continue serving our clients located in the Southeast and we also look forward to attracting new clients from this office.”
